Bio

Lexie is the Education & Internship Coordinator, instructor for PLS193 (Garden and Farm Based Experiential Education Methods), and leads the Kids in the Garden Program at the UC Davis Student Farm. She began her journey in agriculture and education in undergrad as an Environmental Studies major and garden teacher at elementary schools in San Francisco. From there, she pursued a Masters in Education at the University of Washington where she also attended IslandWood, a graduate residency program focused on Environment, Education, and Community. As a leader of the UW campus farm, she was able to expand her understanding of growing food and her connection to the land. After moving back to the Bay Area, Lexie worked for a food distribution start up that connected local farms with vendors throughout the country. During this time, Lexie also attended the Center for Land Based Learning's Beginning Farmer Training program. From there, she decided to combine her passion for education and agriculture and became a founding K-8 STEAM teacher at a progressive independent school in Palo Alto. Her work included creating a schoolyard gardening program, implementing Environmental Literacy Standards into the curriculum, and organizing social justice movements schoolwide. Now, her position at UC Davis allows her to combine her knowledge and passion for food, community, and the environment.
